October 2021

Dear Musica Viva Chamber Music Enthusiasts,

We are very pleased to announce the upcoming 18th season of Musica Viva and hope you can join us. We hope very much that all of you are healthy and safe. These last 18 months have been difficult for us all.

During this time of isolation many of us have had the opportunity to examine what is important and necessary in our lives. Musicians have had a chance to rethink and ask themselves what their role and purpose in society is and will continue to be in the future.

Our first two concert sets in October and November 2021 reflect some of our thoughts: “Pandemic I: Solitude” will feature Dieter in a program of music for unaccompanied cello, and “Pandemic II: Desolation to Hope” will feature Susan and Dieter in a mixed program of music for solo violin, solo cello, and duos for violin and violoncello.

The programs we will be presenting are not the usual offering of music by “dead white male composers” but will feature an eclectic selection of composers who are a reflection of our society and its struggles: COVID-19, violence against people of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) heritage, BLM, #MeToo, the Creek Wildfire, and other issues which have been highlighted, for better or worse, by the pandemic.

We are continuing to finalize the rest of our 2021-22 season including a March 2022 set with pianist Faith DeBow. Thank you for your patience as we negotiate schedules, COVID-19 surges, and a myriad of other concerns during this process.

All of our Musica Viva concerts are FREE and all are welcome. Please feel free to bring your family, a colleague, a friend, or a few friends. Let's all share the music and the concepts contained within each program.

We encourage you to respect and care for your neighbors: please do not attend these events if you are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or are exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms. We are requesting that masks be worn throughout the entire time we are all together. The sanctuaries of all churches are large enough to facilitate physical distancing.

If you receive this email more than once, we apologize. We encourage you to please feel free to pass on this email and invite your friends.
